Itinerary

Join the South Coast Wine Train and travel from the heart of Mount Barker past new residential developments and escape into the fields of local produce, rolling hills and rich farming land, all whilst being surrounded by the majestic eucalyptus trees of the region.

Enjoy distant glimpses of the eastern plains and Murraylands extending from the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges toward the Coorong and South Coast, as the train slowly descends the Adelaide Hills escapement to arrive at the historic township of Strathalbyn.

Meet your luxury tour coach for a town tour of Strathalbyn before travelling the short distance to the vineyards of Langhorne Creek. Arrive at your first winery for the day and be guided through a tasting of local wines in an informal, relaxed approach with our wine host and the friendly cellar door staff.

Continue to the Bridge Hotel in the heart of Langhorne Creek where you will experience great country hospitality and a delicious 2 course meal at the historic 1850’s pub.

Following lunch, continue your wine tasting encounters at the next cellar door where you start to experience more of the creativity and community pride that the locals have for their “hidden gem” of Australian wine regions.

During your second tasting and cellar door visit, you can learn more about the region’s vineyards and what makes their wines so highly regarded and sought after or just sit back and relax in the warmth of the local’s hospitality as your cellar door host guides you through a selection of their wines.

Your South Coast Wine Train crew will lead you through from the last winery to the nearby station where you will board the Wine Train for your return journey over the railway lines of the Fleurieu Peninsula and Strathalbyn and into the Adelaide Hills.

Sit back in your beautifully restored 1940’s carriage and enjoy a glass of wine from the bar over a local produce platter whilst you listen to the rhythm of the rails as the South Coast Wine Train makes the climb back up the Mount Lofty Ranges to Mount Barker.

After a relaxing two-hour rail journey, you will arrive back at Mount Barker as your tour comes to an end.
