McLaren Vale Day Tour
- Duration: 8 Hours (approx.)
- Location: McLaren Vale
- Product code: MV38
Depart Adelaide from your city hotel and travel towards the southern suburbs of Adelaide and head to the coast. Enjoy views of the St Vincent Gulf waters as we make our way closer to the sandy beaches.
Our first stop is at the Port Noarlunga lookout where your guide will explain the lay of the land and also the development of the area over the decades. Take in the fresh sea air and snap a photo or two of the picturesque coastline as it travels further along into the Fleurieu Peninsula.
We continue our journey past newly developed residential land, open fields and the odd kangaroo, to enter into the McLaren Vale wine region and arrive at our first winery of Kay Brothers.
Kay Brothers is the oldest winery within the region and still family owned, which is a great testament to the family who started their business back in 1891. Enjoy tasting a range of wines here including some old vine Shiraz and Cabernet from the region.
As we travel to our next winery we enjoy the views of the Mount Lofty Ranges that we have traversed through and we start to admire the opening tapestry of vineyards that run on down to the coastal edge.
Our next winery on our journey takes us to Angove Family Winemakers. Angoves go back 5 generation when Dr William Thomas Angove arrived in Adelaide in 1886 and started making wine as tonic for his patients within his local practice. These days Angove Family Winemakers has developed to become one of Australia’s largest privately owned wine companies.
Enjoy a 2 course lunch at the popular Red Poles restaurant and art gallery. ( Tuesday lunch is a regional platter at a local venue)
An iconic name within the region, Australia and the world is Hardys. Visit Hardy’s Tintara winery for a tasting and inspect parts of their old winery like the open fermentation tanks within the 1860’s winery.
Whilst we are at Hardys, walk next door for a visit to The Almond Train for locally grown and flavoured almonds and produce. Or if chocolate is your thing, head across to Robern Menz Chocolates for a taste and to buy a gift for yourself.
A well known and highly regarded winery in the region is Paxton Winery. Arrive at the historic Landcross Farm, a local sheep and wheat farm on the old Willunga Road from the 1840’s where we discover the current day cellar door. Enjoy a taste of Paxton’s much sought after Shiraz wines while enjoying sweeping views of the Vale.
During the course of the day enjoy visiting another 2 wineries within McLaren Vale. These wineries may vary from day to day but may include 2 of the following - Wirra Wirra, Fox Creek, Chapel Hill Wines, Rosemount, Dogridge, Maxwells, Woodstock and many more.
At the end of our day we travel back to Adelaide whilst spotting the coastline and taking in city views as we drop down into the Adelaide area.
Arrive back in Adelaide at approximately 5.15 pm with a courtesy drop off back to your door.
